Diafenthiuron is an inhibitor of mitochondrial respiration and it acts as a insecticide and acaridae which kills larvae, nymphs and adults by contact or stomach action and it is also effective against phytophagous mites ( Tetranychidae, Tarsonemidae),also controls some leaf-feeding pests in cole crops (plutella xylostella) ,soya beans and cotton. It paralyses the pest, which remain immobile on the crop until death in about 3-4 days.
N-[2, 6-bis(1-methylethyl)-4-phenoxyphenyl]-N´-(1,1-dimethylethyl)thiourea
Class 9, [Environmentally hazardous Substance, solid, N.O.S. (Diafenthiuron)]
[ 80060-09-9], UN No.: 3077
Mammalian toxicity: WHO U, Unlikely to present acute hazard. Environmental toxicity: Diafenthiuron is degraded to yield its corresponding carbodiimide, which, in turn, react with nucleophiles like water and fatty acids to form urea and fatty acid. Diafenthiuron shows a complex metabolism pattern in all crops. Uptake of residue activity by plants from soil is low its main metabolites show a strong sorptivity to soil particles. It is very toxic for Birds and worms. It is highly toxic for fishes like Rainbow trout and Sheepshead minnows (because of rapid degradation to nontoxic metabolites, there is no significant hazard under field conditions) It is toxic for honeybees, no significant hazard under field condition.
Two years under normal storage conditions.
