Paraquat dichloride is a non-selective contact herbicide, which is absorbed by foliage, with some translocation in the xylem. It is used in broad-spectrum control of broad-leaved weeds and grasses, in a wide range of agricultural applications, for general weed control on non-crop land and also for pasture restoration.

Mammalian toxicity: WHO (a.i.) I, Highly Hazardous. b) Environmental toxicity: In animals carbofuran is metabolized by hydrolytic and oxidative mechanisms. In plants it is quickly metabolized into 3-hydroxycarbofuran and ketocarbofuran. It is very highly toxic to birds on an acute basis, and highly toxic on a sub-acute basis. It is highly toxic to mammals on an acute basis. It is very highly toxic to freshwater and estuarine/marine fish on an acute basis. It is toxic to bees as well.
